In 1997, St. Mary's Medical
Center and Duluth Clinic merged to form
St. Mary's / Duluth Clinic Health System. In 2001, Miller-Dwan
Medical Center joined the SMDC family, further enhancing the care
and services SMDC offers patients and family members in this region.
Today, SMDC is an innovative leader in the health care of the
region, with 20 clinics, four hospitals and an array of specialty
care services to meet the needs of our patients. Our medical team of
more than 350 physicians and 200 allied health care providers work
with more than 5,000 experienced staff people to provide the highest
quality health care for residents of the region.
Cancer Center
The cancer specialists at SMDC don't just treat cancer, they care
for patients. SMDC Cancer Center provides the latest in technology
and treatment strategies for nearly all types of cancer, at our main
campus in Duluth as well as through many of our clinic outreach
sites.
Emergency, Trauma & Surgical Services SMDC provides
comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages presenting with
any health care problem, from minor illnesses and injuries to
critical care or trauma conditions. We also offer the region's only
burn center and a complete line of specialists who are available
whenever more expert care is needed.
LifeFlight
LifeFlight is SMDC's air medical transport service providing
critically ill or injured patients rapid access to advanced life
support care and rapid transportation to its critical care
facilities.
Neuroscience SMDC neurologists, neurosurgeons and
neurology clinical support staff are highly skilled and experienced
in disorders of the brain, spine and central nervous system, with
both adults and children. These specialists perform thousands of
procedures every year with excellent patient outcomes and are
committed to staying current with the latest in technology,
diagnosis and treatment strategies.
Orthopedics SMDC has been recognized as a Top 100
Orthopedic Hospital and is the region's most comprehensive provider
of orthopedic care. Surgeons and medical/sports orthopedic
specialists offer a high degree of expertise in diagnostic, surgical
and other treatment services for adults and children with
musculoskeletal injuries, anomalies, and disabilities.
Primary Care At SMDC, we truly believe that an
ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. More than 170 Family
Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatric
physicians serve the primary care needs of SMDC patients through our
network of 20 area clinics.
Heart Center
St. Mary's Duluth Clinic (SMDC) is the third largest provider of
cardiac care in Minnesota, serving a population of more than 460,000
from Minnesota, Wisconsin and western Michigan. The services
provided by the St. Mary's Duluth Clinic Heart Center are the most
highly respected in the region.
Rehabilitation SMDC's rehabilitation programs are
renowned throughout the region for helping people of all ages and
abilities restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health.
Women's Health SMDC offers primary and preventive
care for women of all ages. We provide the very best in gynecologic
and obstetric services that range from routine check-ups, fertility
counseling and treatment, genetic counseling, childbirth education
and high-risk obstetrics, to cancer screening and menopausal care.
