Stipends
- PGY1 – $58,642
- PGY2 – $60,447
- PGY3 – $62,500
Vacation & Leaves
- 21 days Paid Time Off (PTO) per contract year. These days are designed to cover vacations, unexpected absences such as sick days and funeral/bereavement leave, and practice search.
- Extended periods of leave available for FMLA, crisis, or advanced educational opportunities at the program director’s discretion.
- Two weeks paid parental leave.
Prenatal/Newborn Elective
- 2- to 4-week elective may be taken by residents who have a child born or adopted during residency
Practice-Related Benefits and Reimbursements
Reimbursed during residency:
- Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Permit and License
- DEA registration & X number (Suboxone)
- Up to $1,000 reimbursement for relocation expenses
- Uniforms: lab coats (laundry service) and scrubs

Professional Development and Continuing Education
- Up to $1,000 reimbursement for continuing medical education expenses
- Up to five days per year for continuing medical education courses
- Life Support Courses: certification and recertification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Reimbursement for the USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX-USA Level 3 exams if taken during residency
- Access to the University of Minnesota library system including the Bio-Medical Library
- Reimbursement for self-study to prepare for ABFM in-training exams and board certification – at program’s discretion
- Department of Family Medicine sponsored courses
